A defiant Prime Minister Theresa May vowed Friday to form a government to lead Britain out of the EU despite losing her majority in a snap general election and facing calls to resign. May sought permission Friday from head of state Queen Elizabeth II to form a minority government, supported by Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). In a statement outside Downing Street, the 60-year-old premier promised to "fulfil the promise of Brexit".
The pound plunged Friday as Prime Minister Theresa May's Conservatives lost their parliamentary majority in Britain's general election, fuelling political uncertainty just days before the start of Brexit talks, but Wall Street shot to record highs as Donald Trump hit back at his critics. May had called Thursday's snap vote in a bid to boost her Conservative party's hold over parliament and give her a stronger hand in upcoming talks with EU leaders over the country's detachment from the bloc.
