San Francisco power outage hits financial hub for hours
A power outage hit about 90,000 customers on Friday morning in San Francisco, closing shops and snarling traffic in the city's technology and finance center as a large swath of the financial district lost electricity. The utility PG&E Corp reported a fire at a San Francisco substation and a series of outages began affecting the city shortly after 9 a.m. (Noon ET). It said on Twitter that it expected power to be restored for most customers by 1 p.m. (4 p.m. ET).

Venezuela death toll soars to 20 in weeks of protests
The number of people killed in three weeks of street protests against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro soared to 20 on Friday after one of the deadliest nights of unrest in Caracas. The neighborhood witnessed pillaging and violent clashes between police and protesters, according to residents, some of whom took images of an anti-riot vehicle charred by Molotov cocktails. "It was like a war," resident Carlos Yanez told AFP.
